These indicators reflect whether a cardholder was successfully authenticated during checkout — and whether the merchant is protected against chargebacks.

The table below explains the meaning of each indicator value:

Code	Description	Comment
N	Not Authenticated	Authentication was attempted but not successful. The merchant does not receive chargeback protection for this transaction.
A	Authenticated	Authentication was attempted and successful. The merchant does receive chargeback protection.
X	Not Applicable	Authentication was not enabled on the PayGate account, or an unexpected error occurred during the authentication process. No chargeback protection is provided.

To benefit from chargeback protection, merchants must ensure that 3-D Secure is enabled and properly configured on their account. This can be accessed through the Merchant Access Portal.
